After Hours Care

Tips That Can Come In Handy

It seems like an unwritten rule that things happen on weekends or at night. Perhaps a bracket comes off or a wire becomes loose or causes irritation, and you wonder if it can wait until business hours or if it’s really necessary to see us right away. We understand!

Below is a list of things that, though uncommon, can happen, as well as some helpful tips for how to handle them at home. If you try these and still feel you need our help, all you have to do is call the office. We’re always monitoring our calls and will get back to you as quickly as we can. In the meantime, if you have minor issues please see below…your answer might be there.

If needed, you are always welcome to reach out to our on-call number at 970-590-5460. (Please use this as an emergency option though).

Loose Bracket

If the bracket is still attached to the wire, leave it in place. If it’s uncomfortable, cover with wax. If it comes out completely, bring it with you to the next appointment. Never connect elastics to a loose bracket.

Lost Tie Wire Or Elastic Band

Please call the office to ask if an appointment is necessary. Be sure to notify the assistant at your next appointment.

Soreness From Braces

Rinse with warm saltwater. If necessary, take the same pain reliever you would for a headache or muscle pain. Drinking or eating something cold can also provide temporary relief.

Pokey Wire Or Soft Tissue Irritation

If you can cover the source of irritation (the wire end of the bracket) with orthodontic wax, this should get you through until we are open and can see you during business hours.
